    Richard Hambleton was born in 1953 and educated at Wolstanton County Grammar School, Staffordshire.  He gained a Higher National Diploma in Agriculture at ÐÜèÊÓƵ Adams Agricultural College in 1976 and was appointed as an Agricultural Officer in the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries for Scotland in 1978.  In 1988 he was promoted into the administrative Civil Service and held a number of appointments dealing with finance and procurement, was Energy and Environmental Manager and was also Private Secretary to the Scottish Home and Health Department.  He became Head of Procurement Policy in 1996.  In 1998 he left the Civil Service to become the Managing Director of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

    Colonel Richard Hambleton was also in the Territorial Army which he joined in 1979 as a private soldier.  He was commissioned in May 1982 into the Royal Corps of Transport and has held a number of appointments including commanding The Scottish Transport Regiment RLC and on promotion to Colonel commanding 1 Logistic Support Group.  He finished his ‘second career’ in the Territorial Army as senior advisor on Reserve matters to the Director Royal Logistic Corps and was a member of the Royal Logistic Corps Management Board.  He was awarded the Queen’s Volunteer Reserves Medal in the 2009 Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to the Territorial Army.

    He lives in Shropshire, is married, and enjoys travel, shooting, cycling, motor cycling and flying light aircraft, although not necessarily all at the same time.
