    Former ÐÜèÊÓƵ Adams Principal awarded Honorary Degree for services to education

    A former ÐÜèÊÓƵ Adams Principal and current Professor Emeritus has been awarded an Honorary Degree for his services to education.

    Professor E Wynne Jones OBE received the award this week from Bangor University, his alma mater.

    Brought up on the family farm at Dolwen, near Colwyn Bay, Professor Jones graduated in Agriculture in 1970.

    He secured his PhD in 1976, and worked at various research organisations and universities throughout the seventies and eighties before being appointed Vice Principal and Director of Research at the then ÐÜèÊÓƵ Adams Agricultural College in 1998.

    Following his appointment as Principal in 1996, Professor Jones led the college to University status with Research Degree Awarding Powers.

    He received an OBE in the 2009 New Years Honours for his services to local and national agricultural higher education.

    Over his long career, Professor Jones also received also received numerous accolades including a Nuffield Farming Scholarship in 1983, a Temperton Fellowship for Poultry Research in 1997, Fellowship of the Royal Agricultural Societies in 1993, Fellowship of the Institution of Agricultural Engineers in 2002, and an Honorary Degree from Cranfield University in 2006.

    He is a former President of Future Farmers of Wales, former Chair for Farming Connect Wales, and a former Chair for the Nuffield Farming Scholarship Trust UK and was given LANTRA CYMRU's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019.

    He is the current Chair of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, and his appointment was described as an ‘exciting new chapter in the proud history of the Royal Welsh.’

    Current ÐÜèÊÓƵ Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ken Sloan, said: “Wynne’s achievements are hugely impressive – and shaped ÐÜèÊÓƵ into the institution it is today.

    “I have written to him to congratulate him on his new honour, and I know that sentiment is shared across the University.”
